What can you do with your ndis funding?
There are some areas that do not seem to get the attention (and sometimes the funding) that is so deserved, these being Improved Daily Living Skills and Improved Health and Wellbeing (See price guide here).
Yes, that’s right! You can use your NDIS plan to hire an Exercise Physiologist (EP) and start working on your body today, learn new skills and ultimately improve your physical and mental health.
Your carer routine is paramount and getting transport from A to B is really important, but never before have you been able to go into a health clinic or gym or get an exercise and disability professional come to your house to have a 1 on 1 session completely covered by your insurance scheme. This is an unprecedented time we are living in and it’s your right to access these amazing services that you never had the chance or money to access in the past.
We understand that gyms can be daunting places, full of people with seemingly too much confidence and judgemental eyes. So, it is understandable that you may have found it difficult to be as active as you would have liked.
The truth is that most of those people in there feel as vulnerable as you, or did at the start of their journey. It really only comes down to knowing a few things to make a continuing lifestyle change and start regular exercise. With an Exercise Physiologist by your side to get you comfortable with movement and routine, you could find that exercise is something that you’ve been missing all along!
Now we could harp on about the overwhelming benefits of exercise to your daily lives but you should hopefully know this already. The fact is, that when you are living with a disability, it is that much more important to keep moving and work on your physical fitness and function.
As Exercise Physiologists, we believe that movement is medicine and we know that when you are living with a disability it is much harder to access suitable and affordable services. Being given an opportunity to experience these in my eyes could very well have a hugely positive impact on your life and health for the future.
Set yourself some goals; whether it’s weight loss, learning something new like transfers, or using adaptive sporting equipment – now that you have the professional help you need to achieve these goals, use this as motivation to give it a go!
You won’t know until you try.
